INSTRUMENT PILOT

Instrument Training for Pilots - Training and Costs

Instrument rating is a well-respected, hard-earned skill that pilots can obtain. At Arapahoe Flight Club in Colorado Springs, we offer instrument training for pilots who want to further their flying capabilities.  This rating qualifies a pilot to fly in the clouds, and when the weather is not favorable, using just the planes gauges.

What Is Instrument Rating?

An instrument rating, known as IR, is a pilot rating earned through consistent, extensive training focused on flying solely via reference to instruments. It’s an incredibly valuable rating to add to your pilot certification, while being a fun, challenging discipline for flight training. A pilot certified in flight instrument training can fly an airplane from starting to finishing points with only looking out the window for takeoff and landing.

Our Instrument Course is thoughtfully structured with a meticulous hour breakdown to provide aspiring aviators with a comprehensive and effective training program. The curriculum consists of both ground school and practical flight hours to ensure a well-rounded skill set. Ground school comprises approximately 40 hours, covering subjects such as air law, navigation, meteorology, and aircraft systems. Practical flight training accounts for a minimum of 40 hours, including dual instruction with certified flight instructors and solo flight time. The breakdown encompasses various flight maneuvers, emergency procedures, and cross-country navigation. Our goal is to ensure that students not only meet the regulatory requirements set by aviation authorities but also develop the proficiency and confidence necessary to operate an aircraft safely and competently. The hour breakdown is carefully calibrated to optimize learning, allowing students to progress at a pace that aligns with their individual capabilities and ensures mastery of each skill set.
