Master the essential skills to become a proficient and safe aviator in the challenging terrain of the Rocky Mountains. This course, led by our highly experienced Chief Instructor, provides hands-on training in mountain-specific flying techniques.
You won’t just fly to your destination—you’ll gain the expertise to safely navigate and recover from box canyons, mountain waves, thermals, and other unique challenges of mountain flying.
The agenda
Prepare for your flight with a comprehensive 1-hour briefing on mountain flying fundamentals. Learn essential pre-flight planning techniques, explore available weather resources, and gain the knowledge needed for a safe and enjoyable flight into the mountains.
On your first flight, you’ll practice essential mountain flying maneuvers en route to Leadville, CO—the highest paved runway in North America. After earning your certificate at the airport, you’ll continue down the valley to Buena Vista.
On the second day, you'll navigate through the heart of the Rocky Mountains to Telluride, CO. Here, you'll experience the challenges of landing at a high-altitude alpine airport while capturing incredible photos of the stunning landscape.

Fly our Diamond DA40 and experience the thrill of mountain flying in an aircraft built for the challenge. With its exceptional visibility, fuel efficiency, and advanced avionics, the DA40 is perfectly suited for navigating the Rockies. Its high glide ratio and stable handling make it an ideal platform for learning mountain flying techniques with confidence and safety.

Note: Pilots can customize their mountain flying experience, with the option to add destinations or visit other mountain airports such as Aspen, Durango, and more for the additional cost of the aircraft rental.
