Are you a fixed wing pilot looking to add a rotorcraft helicopter rating? We can help at Arapahoe Flight Club in Colorado Springs! We offer helicopter add-on rating training for fixed-wing and airplane pilots. The requirements are similar to those for a private pilot certificate; those details can be found here. Airplane pilots who already hold a commercial, CFI, or ATP rating in fixed-wing aircraft can earn an “add-on” rating.
Fixed-Wing to Helicopter Add-On Requirements
Pilots can continue without being required to take the FAA commercial helicopter written exam, while the minimum number of required dual-training hours is reduced, requiring only 30 hours. You must also complete the training and have applicable aeronautical experience, such as private helicopter and commercial certifications. Finally, you must pass the practical test to obtain add-on certification.
